Cabinet Making
In the both the Secondary and Post-Secondary Competitions, practical skills will be tested in the following areas:
• Use of edge cutting tools such as planes and chisels
• Accurate measuring
• Proper gluing techniques
• Cutting of sheet stock
• Proper installation of common hardware
• Interpretation of drawings and specifications
• Solving of construction problems
• Time management
• Final surface preparation before finishing
• Safe use of table saw, table router, band saw, miter saw, drill press, all portable power tools, chisel mortiser, and basic hand tools (chisels, planes, files, sanding blocks, etc.)
There will also be a theory exam consisting of 20 questions regarding reading plans and planning work procedures.
High School students are registered for the event by their teacher. Review the registration package and scopes for details. Please note this is a regionalized event. Students must qualify at a RSCC before moving onto the PSCC.
Post-Secondary students are selected by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Review the scope for details.
