IMPORTANT CHANGES THAT WILL IMPACT YOUR ATTENDANCE AT THE 2016 PROVINCIAL SKILLS CANADA COMPETITION

 

Due to the Provincial State of Emergency that has been declared because of the various wildfires occurring across the Province of Alberta, the Provincial Skills Canada Competition will no longer be running at the Edmonton EXPO Centre May 11-12, 2016.

All Secondary events have been cancelled. There is important information below on how Team Alberta Competitors will be selected, as we will still be bringing a team to the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) in Moncton, New Brunswick on June 5-8, 2016.

SECONDARY

The majority of the secondary events will select a National Competitor for Team Alberta from a lottery held on May 12th, 2016. The lottery process for your event is dependent on whether the event was regionalized or not.

Four secondary events do not advance to the 2016 SCNC, and have been cancelled outright. Those events are listed below.

The following Regionalized Secondary events will select a National Competitor for Team Alberta from a lottery made up of the gold medalists:

  • Auto Service
  • Baking
  • Cabinet Making
  • Carpentry
  • Culinary Arts
  • TV & Video Production
  • Welding

The following Non-regionalized Secondary events will select a National Competitor for Team Alberta from a lottery made up of the competitors who are registered for the 2016 Provincial Skills Canada Competition:

  • ·         2D Character Computer Animation

    ·         3D Character Computer Animation

    ·         Architectural Technology and Design

    ·         Autobody Repair

    ·         Car Painting

    ·         Electrical Installations

    ·         Fashion Technology

    ·         Graphic Design

    ·         Hairstyling Senior

    ·         IT & Network Systems Administration

    ·         IT Office Software Applications Level 2

    ·         Job Search

    ·         Job Skill Demonstration

    ·         Mechanical CADD

    ·         Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment

    ·         Photography

    ·         Precision Machining

    ·         Public Speaking

    ·         Robotics

    ·         Website Development

    ·         Workplace Safety

All Secondary students selected for a Team Alberta spot will be notified between May 12th and 13th, 2016.

The following Secondary events have been cancelled and are not eligible to advance to the 2016 SCNC:

    ·         Hairstyling Intermediate

    ·         IT Office Software Applications – Level 1

    ·         Joinery

RELATED EVENTS

The following events related to the 2016 Provincial Skills Canada Competition have been cancelled:
