Joinery Competition for Secondary and Post-Secondary Students

Joinery combines the fine woodworking skills of carpentry and cabinetmaking. This year Skills Canada Alberta is hosting a secondary and post-secondary Joinery Competition to profile the contest area to the many individuals from across Canada that attend our competition, and position Joinery as a potential event at future Skills Canada Provincial and National Competitions.

Alberta secondary (high school) students will compete during the Provincial Skills Canada Competition (May 10-11), and post-secondary students from Alberta will compete during the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) (May 14-15).

Joinery is currently not an event at the SCNC and therefore the gold medalist of the Secondary Joinery Competition will not become part of Team Alberta and will not compete at the SCNC. Medals will be awarded during the Awards Ceremony on May 11 to the secondary competitors.  Post-secondary competitors will be awarded medals on May 15, at the contest area.

Joinery secondary students do not need to qualify through a regional to compete at the Provincial Skills Canada Competition.  Registration will open on Monday, Feb 27 at 8am.

Post-secondary students are nominated by their technical institute to participate.  Interested post-secondary students can contact kariz@skillscanada.com for additional information.
