Welder Receives Outstanding Achievement Award from Skills Canada Alberta

Brad Hollman was 12 years old when he started out in the welding trade. He began working for his father at Falcon Welding in Penhold, Alberta, and in 2009, he was ready to take on the role as owner when his father passed on the torch.

This hardworking spirit and eagerness to succeed led Brad to enter a Skills Competition in 2003 where he won gold at the provincial and national levels. Two years later, he began volunteering with Skills Canada Alberta on the Provincial Technical Committee for the welding competition.

In this role, Brad brings competitor insight and perspective to his fellow committee members. He also helps with the project design, set up and tear down, and Try-a-Trade demonstrations.

“Being a Skills volunteers is a great way to challenge young minds and meet people that share the same interests as you,” said Brad.

Skills Canada Alberta recently presented Brad with the Outstanding Achievement Award, one of two new awards to honour Skills Alberta Alumni members with outstanding dedication, spirit and commitment to the Skills Movement. It was established in 2012 in honour of Skills Canada Alberta’s 20th Anniversary.

“Receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award from Skills Canada Alberta is a great honour because it has been given to me by my mentors. I hope that I can continue to excel and help with all aspects of Skills Competitions and continue to have success within my trade,” said Brad.

As a business owner, Brad is committed to introducing his apprentices to the benefits of Skills Canada competitions and supporting them throughout the process.

“Participation in Skills Competitions comes from the desire to perform and achieve greatness. It’s a place where we can showcase our skills and achieve the recognition of being the best in our trade,” said Brad. “And after competing, it gives you confidence to succeed and the ability to challenge yourself for greatness.”

Congratulations, Brad, on receiving this very special Alumni Award!
